Which links are affiliate links

Essentially all of the outbound product links on this site are affiliate links. That includes product names in prose, product photographs, price tags and every "Check price on Amazon" button. If a product name on this site is clickable, assume it is an affiliate link. If you buy something after following one, we may receive a commission. The price you pay is exactly the same either way.

Where a product does not have a verified listing we can link to directly, the button instead runs a search for that model by name. That is still an affiliate link, and it may return comparable gear rather than the exact item, which we say on the page where it happens.

Links to manufacturer manuals, specification sheets, government pages and similar reference material are not affiliate links and earn nothing. They are there as citations.

What this changes, and what it does not

It does not change what gets recommended. The commission on a $70 analog machine is trivial next to the commission on a $1,499 flagship, and this site still tells most beginners to buy the cheap one, still tells people that their current machine is probably not the limiting factor, and still has an entire tier on every roundup devoted to who should not spend the money. Several pages here exist mainly to talk a reader out of a purchase.

What it does change is that this site can exist at all. Reference tables take a long time to compile and nobody pays for them directly.

Prices shown were accurate when the page was compiled and change constantly. Treat every figure on this site as a guide and confirm the current price on the retailer's own page before you order. We do not control retailer pricing, stock or shipping, and we cannot help with an order, a return or a warranty claim: those go to the retailer or the manufacturer.
